Being Born Again

READ: 1 Peter 1:3 - 5

BY WHOM: Peter begins these three verses by blessing "the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" (v3) and by stating that He is the one who causes us to be born again. Let us also begin by praising God the Father for bringing us the new birth.

HOW: Peter sets the measure of the work that has been done for us by saying that it is "according to His abundant mercy" (v3). Let's praise God for His abundant mercy shown towards us in so many ways.

TO HOPE: These verses speak of us as being born again to a living hope (v3). A living hope is an exciting concept in a world where most people consider any hope at all is a miracle to be welcome. Let's look beyond ourselves and pray for those we know who need that living hope.

THROUGH: Our living hope comes through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead (v3). Let's pray for a greater recognition of resurrection power in our own lives.

TO AN INHERITANCE: Peter tells us four things about our spiritual inheritance (v4) - it is... incorruptible, undefiled, unfading, specially reserved. Let's praise God for each of these.

KEPT: These verses explain that we are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (v5). This does not deny the salvation we have already received. It points to the redemption of our physical bodies which is yet to take place. Let's praise God for the fulness of the salvation which He brings.
