Discussion Guide
WATCH VIDEO - Part 1
‘THE BREAKING OF BREAD’
Watch the first part of the video looking at the two followers of Jesus as they encounter a stranger on the 7-mile road to Emmaus.
Read 1 Peter 1:12
Discuss: How does this verse affect your expectation when sharing the Good News with others?
Additional Questions
What expectations should we place on ourselves when explaining God’s Word?
What do you think Jesus meant when He said to the Pharisees “you study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life”?
What would He say to us today?
WATCH VIDEO - Part 2
‘BREATH OF GOD’
Watch the second part of the video where we think about Jesus’ appearance to the disciples who were hiding in an upper room.
Read Matthew 6:12
Discuss: In what areas of your life do you find it hard to find forgiveness for others?
Additional questions
How should we view the struggle between the disciples’ fear and the reassurances brought by Jesus? Should their anxieties have been instantly solved?
Is there a place for taking practical precautions without undermining our faith?
PRAYER & REFLECTION
End your time as a group, or individually, in a time of prayer.
If it is helpful, below is a written prayer you can use as a reflection on the two encounters that we have looked at in this session.
Lord,
thank You for the revelation of Yourself in the Scriptures,
for faithful records that show Your plan of redemption.
Thank You for the words of life given to transform us,
words of authority to be shared in resurrection power.
Help us grasp the truth that You long to bring to us,
and cause us always to come to You to receive Your life
so we may demonstrate it in increasing fullness
And thank You for understanding our weaknesses
and being committed to bringing reassurance to our hearts.
Help us to apply these reassurances to our lives,
taking hold of the hope they bring and building ourselves up for the challenges of life.
Make us people of integrity who draw on You rather than just acknowledging You.
For the sake of Your kingdom,
Amen
